Emirates #203 2am to JFK 7:20am

Iceland- I'll be back in almost exactly 9 months!

Surrounded by sniffling, sneezing, coughing little screaming noise makers.

Wow, it looks cold out...

So I had a 5.5 hour layover, what a waste I thought...
I turned my phone on after landing, and received an automated call from JetBlue- your 12:30 flight has been canceled, hope you fly with us again. And when you called their phone lines you wouldn't be able to connect, and it would then hang up on you...no way to rebook or talk to someone. Wow, bad luck had finally caught up with me.

It took us THREE hours sitting on the plane before they could find a place to park the plane and get off.
There were then massive lines at immigration, where the were only TWO agents to get US citizens through, I had actually never seen it that bad in the US before.
Then it was yet ANOTHER 1.5 hours waiting for luggage, horrendous.

Wednesday 29th

Hand me a lemon, time to make some lemonade!

I took the hotel shuttle to the airport, where I caught the AirTrain to the subway, and then was able to meet with my friend Wendy, whom I had met on my Antarctica trip in 2007. She was kind enough to lend me a fleece, jacket, hat, and scarf. To give it some perspective the day before at the airport I had to go between terminals (made it through with dogged determination) and also wait for the airport shuttle outside (froze my ass off) just wearing a linen short sleeve shirt, shorts, and slippers. Poeple looked at me like I was crazy.

Then I proceeded on to Broadway. This morning I had gone on-line to look for Spider-Man (the musical) (the most expensive show to make in Boradway history) and there were only two tickets left for the afternoon show. Unfortunately they were "premium" seats, so I had to pay up the ying yang for them but went ahead with it. The music was done by The Edge and Bono from U2, so I really wanted to see this.

Two slices of pizza for a quick lunch. Mmmnn. Rarely eat pizza anymore.

This was the 25th preview show.

The show was cool, and there were two mechanical glitches which I guess you could say made my showing unique. The flying circle seats I believe would have been better than the fifth row orchestra seat I had paid so much for, but oh well.

When I had contacted Wendy this morning she apologized that she couldn't hang out tonight because she had plans to see Prince...really? I was initially apprehensive to go because I thought there would be too much idle time wondering the streets in the cold between my shows, or that the extreme lack of sleep over the last few days would make me so tired that I might doze through the concert, as I somewhat did after a day of overactivity in 1992 when I saw him in London.
But Spider-Man lasted until about 5pm so there wasn't much extra time, and a brisk walk to meet Wendy for dinner had me wide awake. On the way I also called a guy on Craigslist and got what looked liek some good $200 seats for $140. Score!

Setlist

This was my first show at Madison Square Garden, and seats were indeed fantastic. On this tour Prince was also focusing on his hits, and after I took time to nap during the two opening acts, Prince himself blew me away. It was literally non-stop for over the first hour, and he was as entertaining as ever.

Show lasted until about 11, and then it took me a long time to get back to the hotel via public transport. Was after 1am I believe.

The Comfort Inn by JFK. Room #402 was home for three days.

Thursday 30th

Probably around 4am I looked on-line and there was a flight available directly to Austin, vs having to go to FLL today, then get into AUS on Friday around 6pm and have to head stright out the door for my New Years plans. So I got my flight switched, sat around the hotel ALL day- but at least I had WiFi access so could do things.

Jet Blue #1069 $234
JFK 8:30pm to AUS 11:51pm

Flight of course was delayed, but I made it home around around 1am exhausted.
